Announcing new Genesee Elementary Principal
The Auburn Enlarged City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Amanda Simmons as principal at Genesee Elementary School effective August 28, 2017.

Simmons is currently the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant Director in the Solvay Union Free School District. While in this role, Amanda has been able to utilize her skills of communication, collaboration, and facilitation to connect with community partners, implement summer programming, and map out a plan and timeline for extended day programming in Solvay.

Simmons’ first administrative experience came as an Administrative Intern at Solvay Elementary School where she helped to maintain a safe and structured school environment focused on learning for all students. Prior to her internship, she served as the Literacy Coordinator for Solvay Elementary School for nearly 11 years, which has helped her to become adept in communicating, problem-solving, building relationships with all stakeholders, overseeing curriculum development and improvement plans, and modeling instructional best practices.

With extensive hands-on teaching experience, along with teaching leadership experience, Simmons knows exactly what teachers and administrators go through on a day-to-day basis, and she strives to empower them with the resources they need so they can in turn empower their own students.

Simmons believes that as an instructional leader, it is important to help all stakeholders develop best practices in educating students, and effective, timely communication and ongoing professional development are essential.

“I am an optimistic, motivated, and energetic leader who has spent my entire career devoted to the educational advancement of children,” Simmons said. “I am passionate about people and relationships, instruction, and literacy.”

Simmons holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership, Master’s in Literacy Education (Birth-Grade 6), Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, and certifications in School Building Leadership, Literacy (Birth-Grade 6), and Childhood Education (PreK-Grade 6).

The school district is looking forward to the instructional and leadership experience Simmons will bring with her. Her optimism and dedication to students will surely have a great effect on Genesee Elementary School.
